HALLOWEEN 2004
October 3rd - Day 3
Kinda King Kong.
I was in a hurry and actually hadn't gotten a prop in the yard this morning. This guy was a rush job Sunday afternoon. I ran to the garage at 4 p.m. and grabbed the George Bush supporter from the Candidates scene on Day 1 and shoved him in the suit. No particular reason I picked him over the other except that he was exactly the right size to jam in the suit. When I'm in a hurry, I'm in a hurry.
To mount him on the rebar I had to drill holes in couple of blocks of 2"x4" and slide them down the rebar until I found the right place. Once in place I used hose clamps to lock them tight and set The King on them. I stepped back to make sure I liked his positioning and set out to screw his feet to the blocks. As I mentioned on the previous page I built wood frames for most of the props this year. This made attaching him to the blocks fairly simple. Just screwed through the blocks and into his feet. Of course as I went to secure the first foot I lifted it a bit to move it over and forgot that I hadn't secured his arms to the top. Down he came on top of me. It looked like I was being beaten senseless by a huge ape in my front yard. Fortunately the folks in the neighborhood have seen so many screwball things in the past five years from me this shocked no one.
Below we see a close up of Kong and Barbie playing the part of Fay Raye. Darned Barbie doesn't have the emotional range Fay did in the original movie so she looks like she's having a blast. I hope Kong eats her.
