They fit perfectly into 1/2" pvc pipe.
The photo below show shows one in use this year after I've sprayed it black. Two lines of thought on painting them. Latex paint works great for dipping them and is a bit more pliable but takes a while to dry and is messy. Spray paint is quick, cheap and easy to touch up. I'm all for quick and easy.
